Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 adds Pirates, Bees, and Crossplay: I’m Ready for Round Two

Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 is soon here, and with it comes a bunch of new subclass options, a photo mode, and—most important for me—cross-platform multiplayer.

I just wrapped up my first playthrough last week. My character is sailing off into retirement, with Shadowheart and an owlbear by his side. It just felt like the right way to end it. But even with the credits rolled, I’m already gearing up for a second round.

Baldur’s gate 3, patch 8 is launching any day now.

This time, it’ll be four of us—actual human players—each controlling our own characters. We’re playing it across Xbox and PC, and patch 8 finally makes that possible.

Baldur’s gate Patch 8 Highlights

Patch 8 isn’t just about technical improvements. It adds twelve new subclass variants, including:

  • Swashbuckler Rogue – a mobile, stylish subclass with pirate energy.
  • Drunken Master Monk – chaotic good embodied in martial arts form.
  • Swarmkeeper Ranger – you summon a legion of bees. Yes, really.
  • And the one people are calling “a very good boy.” I haven’t looked too deep into it yet, but I already like the sound of it. woof.

There’s also a new photo mode, which I’m sure will create loads of humorous stills from this beautiful game.

A full (human) party playthrough

My last playthrough was co-op with one other person, start to finish. That experience alone added much, shared decisions, improvised chaos, and quality time one on one with a good friend. It made the whole thing feel more alive.

Now, we’re stepping it up: four players, each controlling our own character. It’s a full party this time, and with Patch 8 enabling cross-platform play, we’ll be mixing Xbox and PC in the same campaign. That’s going to be interesting.

The real challenge? Seeing if we can actually finish it. Four grown men, all with jobs, dogs, families, and a tendency to spiral into decision paralysis. Overthinking and underperforming.

But even if we never make it past Act 2, I’m still looking forward to the mess. That’s what makes it fun.

Patch 8 Release date

Unfortunately we just dont know. Taking a look at the marketing up-tick, and the time spent of tweaking on patch 8 – I have a sweet feeling about April.

So what do you say Larian, launch next week?
