Cherry Launches a New MX Switch – the Linear Northern Light
The MX Northern Light is a refined linear switch, built with passion by the engineers over at Cherty XTRFY Germany. It focuses on silence and smoothness. It’s the latest addition to Cherry’s MX2A line.
Cherry Xtrfy is on the offence, just a short month since their last press release drop, they have now announced three things that tingles my curiosity; new MX linear switch, a new 65% keyboard and a huge mouse mat.
All three with the same arctic feel and aesthetics. Do you know how I feel about arctic aesthetics? Spoiler alert, I LOVE IT!
Accoring to Cherry XTRFYs the MX Northern Light is
…is a love letter to the keyboard community. It blends the latest MX2A innovations with never-before-seen enhancements, including an ultra-polished top housing and a custom-engineered blue bottom, resulting in a switch that’s as smooth as it is striking.
Sounds nice, doesn’t it?
MX Northern Light switch
It’s designed to be quiet, clean, and consistent. Specs and words can only say so much, personally I would love to test this swtich out myself. Being a big fan on linear switches.
Cherry MX Northern Light has the following specs:
- Type: Linear, mechanical
- Feel: Silent
- Operating force: 45 cN
- Pre-travel: 1.6 mm
- Total travel 3.7 mm
- Lube: Premium-grade lubrication on both rails and the spring guide
Aesthetically, the switch also stands out. The housing has a polished top and a blue-tinted bottom that leans into the Northern Light name. Unfortunately you rarely see how the switches look when using your keyboard, but I guess it’s good knowing they look awesome!?
K5V2 keyboard + mousepad, Northern Light themed bundle
But Wait, There’s More!
They are also opening up preorders for a limited-edition Northern Light themed bundle:
- The K5V2 Mechanical keyboard and a
- The GP6 XL mousepad. A huge 900x400x3 mm aurora borealis themed mat.
The K5V2 keyboard looks nice. 65% is to me the perfect size of a mechanical keyboard, and what I am using at my home office.
I’ve actually been using a Northern Lights-themed mat for a while now, just from GMK, the Aurora Spectral so this design speaks to me.
I am not 100% certain on the keycaps following the the design of the mousepad, as the keycaps of the K5V2 does. But it might work?

As someone living just below the Arctic Circle, I love the theme. I mean, we lost the snow in my garden just last week! More importantly, I’m a linear switch person, and this one sounds like something I’d want to test.
