Sonic Racing CrossWorlds is a huge success
Sega’s Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has crossed the 1 million sales mark across all platforms (excluding Nintendos at time of writing) proving there’s still room for bright, fun, speedy, blue, family-oriented games even in today’s crowded games market.
As a parent with kids right in their prime gaming years (one of them a huge Sonic fan), this feels like a testament that games made for families can still find their place in a saturated market.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds manages to bridge that perfect gap — playable for kids, nostalgic for old folks, and fun for everyone in between.
I am reminded why I love gaming. Sega aren’t trying to outdo anyone; they’re simply giving us players something accessible, bright, blue, and replayable. For families who play together, that’s worth celebrating.
but when will Sonic Racing CrossWorlds release on Switch 2?
No exact date is know at this time, however Sega has confirmed that a digital Switch 2 release of Sonic Racing Crossworlds will be out by the “Holiday Season”, meaning we are very close.
A physical release will is said to arrive shortly after, with the actual release date creeping into early 2026.
Kart racers on PC
Kart racers have always carried a special kind of appeal. We all have fond memories of Mario Kart. Smashing (or getting smashed in my case) your friends. Kart racers are chaotic, colorful, and pure fun. Even better when played on split screen with friends or family.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds builds on that formula, mixing the familiar speedy pace of Sonic with solid visuals and accessible kart gameplay.
Over on PC, where most family-friendly couch games struggle to gain traction, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds seems to have found its audience. Looking at the Steam review numbers, the overall sentiment is solid and it’s sitting with Overwhelmingly Positive user reviews (over 95% of the English-speaking reviews are positive when this article was written).
Steam’s offerings are plentiful, with over 16,000 games released as of November 3rd, 2025 — but it’s not exactly built for the family-friendly couch experience. In a sea of games, finding your audience is hard.
It helps to:
- to feature everyone’s favorite blue hedgehog, and
- be a kart racer.
However, I still see this as proof that quality family games can still succeed in a saturated marketplace.
Conclusion
Seeing Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds sell this well and being accessible on PC gives me hope for nostalgic family-friendly games and their future on Steam and Epic Store.
Maybe, just maybe, the jolly red fella places Sonic Racing under the Christmas tree come December. It’s rare to see a modern game bring so many age groups together, and that’s a gaming victory worth recognizing.
