I am ready

The original Slay the Spire is maybe one of the most important games in its genre. It’s one of those titles that sparked my love for roguelites, and clearly did the same for a lot of other people. The fact that it still sits at 96% positive reviews on Steam, just in the last 30 days, across over 3,100 ratings. Says a lot.

As I wrote in my Steam review of the original Slay the Spire back in february of 2018:
addicting gameplay – “just one more round…” Suddenly, it’s 02:00 AM.

March 5th. Less than two weeks away folks. Prepare your wallets, and sharpen your shivs, we are in for a treat!

What’s new in Slay the Spire 2

The trailer confirms at least two new characters: The Lazy Mage and The Necromancer. New enemies and environments round out the content on offer at Early Access launch.

The headline feature for me is online co-op for up to 4 players, complete with multiplayer-specific cards and team synergies. That’s a bold move for a game that has always been a deeply solo experience, and I’m genuinely curious to see how it plays out.

The machine requirements are also refreshingly conservative in 2026, the year of the Ramageddon. A measly 2.0 GHz dual-core, 4 GB RAM and just 1 GB of VRAM is all you need. The game also launches with Windows, macOS and Linux support from day one.

What to expect from Early Access

Mega Crit has been upfront about the timeline. The game stays in EA “until it feels great”, and they estimate around 1-2 years, based on the original game’s development schedule.

No price has been confirmed yet, but it will increase at 1.0 launch.

Given how the original turned out, I’m not worried. These are developers who know exactly what they’re building. And I remember back from when I was playing the original in Early Access, Mega Crit was very genereous about the updates, bringing fixes and new content on a regualer basis.

See you on in Spire.
