Steam Deck OLED out of stock

Valve has confirmed that Steam Deck OLED is stock intermittently in some regions due to memory and storage shortages.

Steam Deck OLED out of stock notice

The same component crisis delaying the Steam Machine and Steam Frame is now hitting the one device in Valve’s lineup you could actually buy today.

The full story: Valve's hardware delay and the AI RAM crisisValve's Steam Machine price and launch date still uncertain. Blame AI.

This is worth reading carefully. It’s not a supply chain hiccup or unexpected demand, but Valve is struggling to source components at the price point they’ve committed to.

The Deck has been sitting at a known price for a while, and the cost of the RAM and components inside it has moved considerably since then.

Valve is either eating margin or managing inventory carefully to avoid a price increase nobody wants to announce.

No luck with refurbished either

This extends to Valve’s own refurbished Steam Decks as well. The certified refurbished units that Valve sells directly through Steam are subject to the same shortage. So if you were eyeing a refurbished unit as the budget-friendly way in, that option is just as thin on the ground right now.

What about in Norway?

Turs out, it is still possible to get in Norway and the rest of Scandinavia, but the supply seems to be very limited.

It’s the same uncomfortable story as the Steam Machine delay, just wearing different clothes. AI infrastructure demand has driven up the cost of consumer memory across the board, and Valve, like everyone else, can’t escape it.
