Remedys next game is called Firebreak!
There’s a lot of exciting game development happening here in the Nordics, and Remedy Entertainment is one that really stands out to me. You know Remedy? The studio behind heavy hitters like the Alan Wake series, Control, and Max Payne, to name a few. Do you think bullet time came first from The Matrix movie or Max Payne? I’m old enough to remember.
My point is: when Remedy announces something new, we pay attention. And now they’ve announced FBC: Firebreak.

FBC: Firebreak Launch Date and Platforms
FBC: Firebreak is a 3 player co-op FPS that launches in summer 2025 on all major platforms: PC (Steam and Epic Games Store), Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.
Worth noting—it will also be accessible on PC Game Pass, Game Pass Ultimate, plus PlayStation Plus Game Catalog (Extra and Premium) from day one.
As noted on the Steam page, FBC: Firebreak will also support cross-platform multiplayer.
This is a strategic move that differs from Alan Wake 2’s launch, which was exclusive to the Epic Games Store. To me, this shows they want Firebreak to reach players—and a lot of them. If the game’s good, it’ll be played heavily during the otherwise slow summer months.

FBC: Firebreak
In FBC: Firebreak, you play as a Firebreak agent—part of the Federal Bureau of Control’s in-house first-response unit. Your mission? Contain an escalating paranormal threat within the corridors of the Oldest House.
The game takes a refreshingly casual, non-exploitative approach to design. It’s designed to be fun and rewarding in short bursts of gameplay.
As Game Director Mike Kayatta told Ryan McCaffrey in IGN’s video coverage,
“We’re not about daily check-ins. We’re not interested in monthly grinds. We don’t want to give anybody a second job.”
To keep things engaging and (hopefully) strike the perfect balance between fun and meaningful progression, players will unlock perks and different character combinations.
FBC: Firebreak is built for session-based PvE action, with highly re-playable “Jobs” (read: missions) that demand teamwork, strategy and adaptability.
You’ll fight an enemy that might be familiar to veterans of the Remedy Connected Universe: the Hiss—a hostile, parasitic force that corrupts both people and objects as it invades the FBC.
Game Play Loop
You drop in, choose your Job (again: mission), kit, difficulty and how many zones you want to run through. After clearing a zone, you can either extract or continue onwards for bigger rewards. But there’s a catch: the longer you stay, the more numerous and difficult the Hiss become.
From the trailers we’ve seen, environmental mechanics seem to play a big role. You can destroy or manipulate objects, activate mechanisms, and more. The vibe? I’m getting a mix of CoD: Zombies, Half-Life, Left for Dead and a sprinkle of David Lynch weirdness.

FBC: Firebreak Expected Requirements
We don’t have a lot of info here yet, but the graphics look simpler than typical Remedy games like Control and Alan Wake 2. Plus the game seems highly performant in trailers.
More good news: FBC: Firebreak is also said to be Steam Deck verified, rare badge of honor for AAA titles these days. Exciting! I’ll make sure to test it out on my recently reviewed original Steam Deck.
Final Thoughts
Remedy Entertainment is a studio known for deep atmosphere and worldbuilding, so I find it exciting to see them tackle a co-op game.
FBC: Firebreak leans hard into the Remedy Connected Universe, with oppressive architecture, weird tech, some retro flair and Lovecraftian creatures. That same “what-the-hell-is-going-on” vibe from Control and Alan Wake is very much alive here.
The real test will be how well that mood and atmosphere translate to co-op and repeatable jobs (or missions, in-game).
So far, Firebreak looks like it could be a that needed casual feel-good hit of the summer.
Want in early? Wishlist it on Steam. And don’t miss Remedy’s Developer Update livestream on April 24 on twitch, they’re promising a deeper look at FBC: Firebreak’s gameplay.
